20-20 World cup
20-20 world cup is over, Team India prevailed, they faced difficult situations on the way, and they kept their calm in the last few overs to win crunch games against Pakistan during league stages, and then against South Africa in the finals. With this, we ended the 17-year wait to win the cup.
During the press conference post the match Rohit Sharma said "Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. We work very hard as a team, a lot has gone on behind the scenes. It is not today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. We have played many high-pressure games and come on the wrong side too. But the guys understand what is to be done when the back is against the wall, we stuck together and the guys, all of us really wanted to win this really bad."
In the last year, the team has reached the finals for the Test Championship, One Day Worldcup, and now 20-20 World Cup. So obviously they are doing something right.
This encapsulates what we, as parents, should instill in our children. If even one of our kids grasps these principles before turning 15, we would consider our parenting journey a success.
- Focus on the process,
- Do the basics right,
- The results will come sooner or later
- never give up if some results are not in your favor
Three players Virat, Rohit, and Jadeja announced their retirement from the 20-20 format of the game. They have been the backbone of the team for a long time. They are leaving big shoes that will take more work to fill. However, it is interesting that they choose the high point in their careers to call the day. Letting go when you are at the high is not easy. I don't know what went through their mind, if this was predecided or whether they made the decision in the spur of the moment, but this reminds me of Versr 4.20 from Bhagwad Gita.
tyaktva karma-phalasangam
nitya-trpto nirasrayah
karmany abhipravrtto 'pi
naiva kincit karoti sah
This verse describes the state of a person who has attained moksha. That person is no longer attached to the results of their actions, nor do they seek any external stimuli for happiness, They are content with their own nature and act out of a sense of duty and service, without any expectation of personal gain. I guess these players have attained that sate where nothing else matters.
